Russia ahead of West in creating new generation weapons - Deputy PM Borisov

TYUMEN. Sept 15 (Interfax) - Russia has gone far ahead of Western countries in the field of developing weapons based on new physical principles, Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said.

"For many years we have tried to be on a par with or catch up with advanced developments of weapons of Western countries. And for the first time in all this time we have taken the lead. In the field of creating hypersonic weapons," Borisov told reporters at the Tyumen Oil and Gas Forum.

Russia is also ahead of the West in "creating weapons based on new physical principles," Borisov said. "New types of engines, that is, compact, low-power nuclear installations" are being used for these weapons, he said.

"Now we have a serious advantage in this regard over the leading Western countries. And we will try to maintain this advantage," the deputy prime minister said.
