Russian sub fires torpedoes during exercise in Black Sea

MOSCOW. Sept 16 (Interfax) - The Veliky Novgorod diesel-electric submarine of the Russian Black Sea Fleet has fired dummy torpedoes from a submerged position, the fleet said in a statement on Thursday.

"The Veliky Novgorod has successfully accomplished the mission and fired dummy torpedoes from a submerged position at a mock marine target imitating a fleet ASW corvette at an allowable safe distance," the statement said.

Dummy torpedoes were fired at a training range. All of them were salvaged by a torpedo retriever after the exercise.

The fire efficiency was evaluated as good, the fleet said.
