Modernized T-72B3M tanks to reinforce Russian base in Tajikistan amid Afghan situation (Part 2)

YEKATERINBURG. Sept 16 (Interfax) - The 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan will be supplied with modernized T-72B3M tanks with improved maneuverability and crew protection.

"These are T-72B3M tanks with improved combat characteristics," the press service for Russia's Central Military District told Interfax on Thursday.

Central Military District Armor Service Commander Khanif Beglov said on September 10 that the Russian military base in Tajikistan would receive 30 modern tanks before the end of this year. They will replace tanks of earlier modifications operated by the base's tank battalion.

T-72B3M is a new tank demonstrated at the Army 2018 military-technical forum. This is a profound modernization of the T-72 main battle tank.

T-72B3M is powered by a new 1,300 horsepower diesel engine and has additional protection of the turret, the sides and the bottom. The tank is equipped with modern all-day fire control systems, digital communication systems, and a number of other new systems.

The reinforcement of Russia's military base in Tajikistan with new weapons was announced after the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan.

Taliban is a terrorist organization banned in Russia.
