Russian Investigative Committee opens criminal case over calls for mass unrest on voting days

MOSCOW. Sept 16 (Interfax) - The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against activist Dmitry Chebanov on counts of calls for mass unrest during the vote in Russia, committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said.

"The Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against Dmitry Chebanov and other parties under Part 1.1 of Article 212 of the Russian Criminal Code (incitement to and drawing into the organization of and participation in mass unrest)," Petrenko told reporters on Thursday.

A group of at least 11 people from seven constituent territories of Russia created a network of Telegram channels that posted publications and conducted propaganda "aimed at organizing mass unrest in Russian territory on the unified voting days, from September 17 to September 20, 2021," she said.
