NUR-SULTAN. Sept 17 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has proposed that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) create a humanitarian hub in Almaty for channeling international assistance to Afghanistan.
"Given the available infrastructure and logistic capacities of Kazakhstan, we propose that a SCO humanitarian hub be organized in Almaty to deliver humanitarian aid to Afghanistan," Tokayev said at the SCO summit in Dushanbe on Friday.
The hub project will bolster the SCO's role in the resolution of pressing problems of the region, Tokayev said.
