Tajik FM calls int'l community's attention to Taliban actions in Panjshir, Afghanistan

DUSHANBE. Sept 22 (Interfax) - Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin has called attention of the international community to the crimes committed by fighters of the Taliban (terrorist organization banned in Russia) in the Afghan province of Panjshir, as he was speaking in New York within the framework of the high-level dialogue on security of the people of Afghanistan.

"In his speech, the foreign minister highlighted the grave position of the population of the Panjshir province, where the Taliban not just break the law but also subject the local population to brutal treatment and torture. In that connection, he urged international organizations and influential states to put an end to [...] the unlawful actions as soon as possible by helping open roads for the delivery of humanitarian aid to people in Panjshir and other regions of Afghanistan," the Tajik Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.

Muhriddin explained the stance of Tajikistan on the Afghan situation and declared the need for the soonest delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan, the observance of the education rights of women and girls, and the formation of an inclusive government involving all ethnic groups, especially Tajiks, who make up 46% of the population of that country.

The Tajik foreign ministry made a speech within the framework of the high-level dialogue on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly at the invitation of Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
