OSH. Sept 23 (Interfax) - Four school students have been hospitalized as a result of a mass fight on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, Marufan Tulayev, deputy head of Kyrgyzstan's Batken region, told Interfax on Thursday.
"Four Kyrgyz school students were beaten by Tajik school students at around 1:00 p.m. today. The incident occurred in the village of Kok-Tash, which is close to the border. Some 30 Tajik school students attacked these guys when they were returning home," Tulayev said.
The battered school students are aged 13-14, and they have been hospitalized with various injuries and bruises, he said.
"The situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border is controlled by defense and security agencies. The heads of the district interior affairs departments of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are holding negotiations on settling the border incident," Tulayev said.
Conflicts periodically occur on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border over disputed territories. Weapons are sometimes used in them.
According to the Kyrgyz State National Security Committee, the Kyrgyz-Tajik border is 972 kilometers long, of which 519 kilometers are agreed upon and 375 kilometers still need to be delimited.
