MOSCOW. Sept 23 (Interfax) - The Russian Investigative Committee is looking into the circumstances of the death of Sergei Sarapultsev, the head of the Investigative Committee's Directorate for the Perm Territory, Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said.
"The central administration of the Investigative Committee is conducting a procedural probe into the death of Justice Col. Sarapultsev, the head of the Investigative Committee's Directorate for the Perm Territory," Petrenko told reporters on Thursday.
An informed source earlier told Interfax that Sarapultsev had committed suicide. According to the preliminary information, he did so because of problems in his family.
According to information from public sources, Sarapultsev was appointed head of the Investigative Committee's Investigative Directorate for the Perm Territory in July 2018. Before that, he was first deputy head of the directorate.
Petrenko earlier said Investigative Committee head Alexander Bastrykin had visited Perm. Investigators reported to him on the investigation into the mass murder at Perm University and the planned investigative actions, she said.
Petrenko said Bastrykin gave a number of specific instructions concerning the further investigation of the criminal case.
Timur Bekmansurov, a student studying law at the Perm State National Research University, went on a shooting spree at the university on the morning of September 20. Six people were killed, and several dozen were wounded. Bekmansurov was wounded and hospitalized. A criminal case has been opened on the basis of the article of the Criminal Code dealing with murder of two or more people. The case is being investigated by the central administration of the Investigative Committee.
