Russian interceptors destroy mock enemy airborne targets at drills in Buryatia

YEKATERINBURG. Sept 28 (Interfax) - MiG-31BM supersonic interceptors of Russia's Central Military District practiced firing long-range missiles, acting in pairs, during a training exercise in Buryatia, the press service for the Central Military District said on Tuesday.

"The exercise involved 12 planes, MiG-31BM interceptors, Antonov An-12 and An-26 transport planes, as well as about 100 servicemen," the press service said.

During one part of the maneuvers, the MiG-31BMs, acting in pairs, detected and destroyed some 30 airborne targets at a distance of over 100 kilometers, it said.

"The aircraft fired air-to-air missiles at an altitude of approximately 20,000 meters at targets imitating mock enemy reconnaissance systems and cruise missiles," the press service said.

In all, the MiG-31BM jets performed more than 30 training flights during the final stage of the exercise.
