Russian Pacific Fleet's Gromky corvette hits cruise missile target at drills in Sea of Japan

MOSCOW. Oct 5 (Interfax) - The Russian Pacific Fleet's Gromky corvette held a missile and artillery live-fire exercise directed at an airborne target during routine maneuvers in the Sea of Japan, the Pacific Fleet said on Tuesday.

"Under the scenario of the training exercise, the corvette engaged in a sea battle with a mock enemy ship. During practical maneuvers, the Gromky corvette promptly detected, began tracking, and then destroyed a Malakhit cruise missile target fired by the Razliv small missile ship," the fleet said.

The practice target was hit in a strike involving Redut anti-aircraft system missiles and an A-190 100mm onboard artillery system, it said.

"The live-fire exercise was successful. All of the corvette's systems and its anti-aircraft missile system functioned normally," the fleet said.

Visual control over the exercise was ensured by unmanned aerial vehicles of the Pacific Fleet's air force.
