TBILISI. Oct 7 (Interfax) - Georgia should be ready to join NATO at all times, Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani said, adding that NATO might make a political decision on the admission of Georgia to the alliance very soon.
"We should not be scared off by the statement [of the NATO secretary general] that they cannot tell when [Georgia's admission] might happen. We should continue to pursue our agenda, and Georgia should carry on its reforms to enhance defense, compatibility with NATO, and democratic institutions. We should be ready for the moment the political decision is ripe. I am positive this will happen very soon," Zalkaliani said in a program of the Georgian television channel Rustavi 2, commenting on NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg's remark that Ukraine and Georgia will join NATO, but "this is not a matter of tomorrow."
NATO was making similar statements before the Baltic countries joined the alliance, yet the geopolitical situation changed fast and the countries were ready, Zalkaliani said.
"This is why we should always be prepared, as well," he said.
