Saakashvili won't be problem in Tbilisi-Kyiv relations - Georgian parliament speaker

TBILISI. Oct 7 (Interfax) - Georgia's parliament speaker, Kakha Kuchava, has said that he discussed the arrest of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a visit to Kyiv on Thursday.

While the Saakashvili situation is a source of inconvenience for the two countries, no one can be a cause or reason for the souring of bilateral relations, Kuchava told Georgian television networks after the meeting.

"Of course, [the Ukrainian authorities] were unaware of [Saakashvili's] plan to cross the border illegally, and in general, this is an inconvenient situation," he said.

"The fact is, someone will probably be held to account for the recorded instance of the illegal crossing of Ukraine's borders, but this isn't my business, this isn't my issue. Ukraine will carry out its own inquiries," Kuchava said.

He stressed that nothing can stand in the way of the friendship and the strategic partnership between Ukraine and Georgia.

Asked whether they discussed Saakashvili's possible extradition to Ukraine, Kuchava said no.

He also said that he spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky the day before, but Saakashvili was not discussed.
