ST. PETERSBURG. Oct 12 (Interfax) - The Magadan diesel-electric submarine built for Russia's Pacific Fleet has been commissioned for the Navy, an Interfax correspondent reported from the ceremony of raising the St. Andrew's flag.
A state commission signed an acceptance certificate upon the completion of the Magadan's trials at Admiralty Shipyards in early October.
"The Navy has received another reinforcement today. We're admitting the large Magadan submarine to our composition. This third submarine has been built at Admiralty Shipyards for the Pacific Fleet," acting Chief of the Navy Main Staff Mikhail Neupokoyev said at the ceremony.
"The submarine was laid down in November 2019, and not even two years have passed, but we're already raising the flag. This is a good pace," Admiralty Shipyards CEO Alexander Buzakov said.
The Magadan is the third Project 636.3 submarine of a series of submarines being built for the Pacific Fleet.
The Russian Navy expects to receive all the six Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarines being built by Admiralty Shipyards for the Pacific Fleet by 2024.
The Project 636.3 submarines are armed with Kalibr cruise missiles (Novator design bureau, Almaz-Antey Air and Space Defense Corporation).
The Project 636.3 submarines have the following performance specifications: sea endurance 45 days, maximum submergence depth 300 meters, submerged navigation range at an economical speed 400 miles, snorkeling mode range with an increased fuel supply at a speed of seven knots 7,500 miles, the number of torpedo launchers six, maximum submerged speed 18 knots, and the crew 52 people.
