YEKATERINBURG. Oct 14 (Interfax) - The infantry rocket-assisted flamethrower of enhanced range and lethality RPO-A PDM will be used for the first time by Russian troops at a Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) exercise in Tajikistan, the Central Military District's press service said on Thursday.
"During the active phase of the exercise, flamethrower units of the military base will provide support for a motorized infantry offensive in a mountainous desert area. The flamethrowers will be fired against targets imitating small groups of an illegal armed formation, holed up in rocky caves, as well as its fortified emplacements, at distances of up to 800 meters," the statement said.
The new flamethrowers were put into service in the 201st military base in August, the press service said.
On October 18-23 Tajikistan will host three CSTO exercises: Echelon 2021, involving the logistics units, Search 2021 of the reconnaissance forces, and Interaction 2021 of the rapid response forces.
