Russia sends MLRS, howitzers to military exercises near Afghan border in Tajikistan

YEKATERINBURG. Oct 18 (Interfax) - More than 100 artillery and rocket systems are involved in the exercises of the Collective Security Treaty Organization near the Afghan border in Tajikistan, the press service for Russia's Central Military District said on Monday.

"As part of the exercise, a joint taskforce of rocket and artillery troops comprising two battalions armed with multiple-rocket launchers and artillery systems and one battalion armed with howitzers from the 201st military base of the Central Military District, and several artillery units of the Republic of Tajikistan has been set up," the press service said.

"The taskforce is armed with Russian Grad and Uragan multiple-launch rocket systems, 152mm Akatsiya and 122mm Gvozdika self-propelled howitzers, the Kornet portable anti-tank missile system, and the 120mm Sani 2S12 mortar system," it said.
