MOSCOW. Oct 18 (Interfax) - Russia has suggested that an ambassador of a NATO member country in Moscow could be empowered to represent the North Atlantic Alliance in emergency contacts with Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"[Russia's] extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium will be empowered to maintain emergency contacts with the alliance's headquarters. At the alliance's discretion, one of the ambassadors of NATO member countries in Moscow may exercise similar functions," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website on Monday.
