Belittling epithets for UNSC P5 inappropriate - Peskov

MOSCOW. Oct 20 (Interfax) - Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov has said that he has not read the original statement made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, but finds belittling epithets such as "a bunch of countries" inappropriate in this context.

"As you understand, nuances are very important. Because there [in the translation] in Russian 'a bunch of countries' is a belittling concept, which is probably hardly applicable from a diplomatic viewpoint to those powers that took the entire burden and sacrificed so much to liberate the world from fascism," Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.

He said he has not read the statement in Turkish, but definitely intends to do so.

"I haven't had the time for that, it's my fault, I'm sorry. But I will do it. Honestly, I find it interesting [...] Therefore, the nuances are very important here," Peskov said.
