Moscow-format meeting participants to urge UN to call donor conference on Afghanistan - Russian envoy

MOSCOW. Oct 20 (Interfax) - The participants in the Moscow-format meeting on Afghanistan will call on the United Nations to organize a donor conference, Russian Special Presidential Representative for Afghanistan and Director of the Foreign Ministry's Second Asian Department Zamir Kabulov said on Wednesday.

"The common opinion of all the participants was that we should provide aid to the Afghan people and avert the looming crisis, which some have called a humanitarian disaster," Kabulov told journalists on Wednesday.

"Therefore, one of the main results of this meeting, which is going to be mentioned in its document, is a call on the UN by all participants in the Moscow format to convene an international donor conference for providing socioeconomic aid for Afghanistan's post-conflict reconstruction," he said.
