BAKU. Oct 20 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on Wednesday spoke on the phone with the United States' Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried, the ministry's press service said.
"During the conversation, Bayramov informed Donfried of the position of Baku on the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations under the principles of international law. For her part, Donfried underscored the importance of normalizing the relations between the two countries. In this context the U.S. is ready to provide support," a statement said.
The two sides also exchanged views on the bilateral agenda and stressed the importance of further cooperation in a number of areas.
"During the telephone conversation [the pair] also discussed the current situation in the Southern Caucasus. Also, the sides exchanged opinions on other issues of mutual interest," the statement said.
