Russia content with practical interaction with Afghanistan's de facto govt - Lavrov (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Oct 20 (Interfax) - Russia is content with how practical interaction is developing with the Taliban movement, a terrorist organization banned in Russia, that has come to power in Afghanistan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday.

"We are satisfied with the level of our practical interaction with the Afghan authorities, which is helping in the current stage to efficiently attain the prioritized goals of guaranteeing the security of Russian citizens living in Afghanistan and the unobstructed functioning of our embassy in Kabul, as well as the embassies of other states," Lavrov said in an address to the participants in an international meeting on Afghanistan in Moscow.

He thanked the new Afghan de facto authorities for facilitating the return home of Russians stuck in Afghanistan during the government change and welcomed the decision to allow Afghan students admitted to Russian universities to continue their in-person studies.

"We plan to arrange their departure for Russia in the near future. We'll continue to build businesslike relations with Kabul to address urgent and pressing issues on the bilateral agenda," he said.
