MOSCOW. Oct 19 (Interfax) - Russian Ground Forces Commander Oleg Salyukov will discuss military cooperation between Russia and South Korea with South Korean Defense Minister Suh Wook and South Korean Army Chief of Staff Nam Yeong-shin, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
A delegation led by Salyukov has arrived in South Korea to attend the Seoul ADEX 2021 international aerospace and defense exhibition.
"During the visit, a meeting with Korean National Defense Minister Gen. Suh Wook and Army Chief of Staff Nam Yeong-shin is planned," it said.
The meeting will deal with "aspects of the development of cooperation between the main command of the Russian Armed Forces' Ground Forces and the command of the Republic of Korea's Army, the training of Korean officers at Russian Defense Ministry colleges, the organization of joint combat training events, including exercises, and participation of Korean service members in international army games," it said.
The visit will take place amid reports on North Korea's ballistic missile tests. Media have reported with reference to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff that North Korea tested a short-range ballistic missile on Tuesday. The launch caused Tokyo's concerns, as it believes the missile might have been launched from a submarine. North Korea has test-fired several missiles of different classes over the past few months.
It was reported on July that Moscow and Seoul concluded an intergovernmental agreement on military cooperation. In particular, the agreement envisions mutual calls of naval ships and visits of military aircraft, participation in military exercises as observers, working meetings between military experts, and the training of military personnel.
