MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax) - Lyubov Sobol, an associate of Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny and former lawyer for the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK, designated as an extremist organization and banned in Russia), has been declared wanted.
Sobol's profile has been added to the ministry's wanted persons database, which says that she is "wanted under a Criminal Code article."
On August 3, 2021, Moscow's Preobrazhensky District Court sentenced Sobol to a year and a half of restrictions, finding her guilty of incitement to violations of sanitary and epidemiological rules.
The criminal case deals with the events connected with the protest rally in Moscow in support of opposition activist Navalny on January 23, which was unauthorized by the authorities.
Following the event, law enforcement agencies opened a number of criminal cases, including for violations of sanitary and epidemiological rules. Several associates and supporters of Navalny, as well as his brother, were detained as part of these criminal cases.
Sobol herself is currently abroad. An informed source told Interfax about her departure from Russia to Istanbul in August.
In April 2021, Sobol was convicted in another case for violating the inviolability of the home with the use of violence. The magistrates' court gave the opposition activist a suspended sentence of one year of community service.
Apart from that, at the end of September, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on a count of the establishment of and participation in an extremist organization against Navalny and his closest associates, including Sobol.
