State Duma Defense Committee head to visit CSTO exercise in Tajikistan

MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax) - State Duma Defense Committee head Andrei Kartapolov will visit Interaction 2021, a joint exercise with the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), as an observer on October 21-23.

The purpose of the visit by members of the coordination meeting of the chairmen of the defense and security committees of the parliaments of the CSTO countries under the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly is parliamentary monitoring of the military-political situation in Central Asia, the committee told reporters.

The special exercises called Echelon 2021, Search 2021, and the Interaction 2021 joint exercise opened on the Tajik armed forces' Harb-Maidon training ground as part of the CSTO Combat Brotherhood 2021 joint strategic exercise on October 18, 2021. Servicemen from Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are practicing repelling mock terrorists' attacks. The exercises involve 4,000 people and more than 500 pieces of equipment.
