Foreigners can be fingerprinted in 59 regions of Russia

MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax) - The Russian Interior Ministry has made a list of regions where fingerprint registration of foreign citizens arriving in Russia will be conducted.

A relevant decree of the ministry was published on the Internet portal of draft legislation on Thursday.

According to the document, foreigners can be fingerprinted in 59 regions of Russia.

The enforcement of the decree will not require an increase in the number of existing structural divisions of the ministry or the formation of new ones, and no additional funding will be required, either, the Interior Ministry said.

The document is expected to take effect on December 29, 2021, the day when the federal law on mandatory fingerprinting of foreign citizens arriving in Russia in search of work, and also of all other categories of foreigners arriving in Russia for a period of more than 90 days, will take effect.

The Interior Ministry press center said the law also envisages state control over the observance of mandatory requirements of testing in Russian, Russian history, and the foundations of Russian legislation, and also the issuance of relevant certificates to foreigners.

In addition, it is planned to introduce a single document for foreigners with an electronic information carrier, the introduction of which will ensure the 100% identification of foreigners.
