Sanctions on countries in dire need of aid at odds with humanism - Putin

SOCHI. Oct 21 (Interfax) - Sanctions imposed on a number of countries facing coronavirus threats are not humanism, but chatter about humanism, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"Russia has repeatedly called and is now calling for abandoning inappropriate ambitions, but for working together and jointly. We are talking about the need for a joint fight against the coronavirus infection. However, even for humanitarian reasons, I do not mean Russia now, forget about them, with these sanctions on Russia. After all, sanctions are in place in relation to those countries that are in dire need of international assistance. No, nothing like this happens, they are still in place [sanctions]. But where are humanistic principles of Western political thought? In fact, it turns out that there is nothing, and there is only chatter. This is how the matter turns out," Putin said in his speech at a meeting of the Valdai International Club on Thursday.
