Russian, Tajik troops holding joint exercise to repel possible aggression from Afghanistan

MOMIRAL TRAINING GROUND, Tajikistan. Oct 22 (Interfax) - Joint Russian-Tajik military exercises are aimed at repelling possible aggression on the border with Afghanistan, Yevgeny Poplavsky, deputy commander of troops of the Central Military District, said.

"All bandit groups should clearly understand that any attempt to cross the border is a one-way ticket," Poplavsky said.

The purpose of the exercise on the Momirak training ground was to practice joint actions by the units of the 201st military base and Tajik troops to repel possible aggression in the Kulob direction.

"The entire combat training of our troops is aimed at containing and preventing threats that may arise outside Tajikistan or Russia," the general, who leads the joint training on the Momirak training ground on the Russian side, said.

Joint use of tactical techniques by the Russian and Tajik units was practiced in this exercise, he said.

"One of the results of the exercise was the achievement of a new stage of development of their tactical compatibility and the practicing of joint actions in difficult mountain and desert conditions. The Russian troops also shared the combat experience they received during the antiterrorist operation in Syria," Poplavsky said.

Some operative and tactical exercises are currently also being conducted on other training grounds of the Tajik armed forces, where the joint group is achieving combat tasks in various climate conditions, he said. Some units of the 201st military base are now achieving tasks on the Harb-Maidon training ground, where the air temperature is plus 20 degrees Celsius and it is very windy, and it has snowed for the first time on the Momirak training ground, which, however, does not interfere with the combat training.
