Russian 201st military base in Tajikistan trains up to 1,000 Tajik servicemen every year

DUSHANBE. Oct 24 (Interfax) - The Russian 201st military base in Tajikistan annually trains up to 1,000 junior specialists for the national Armed Forces, Chief of Staff of the formation Col. Yevgeny Okhrimenko said.

"One of the tasks of the formation is to train junior specialists of the Tajik army in 14 basic specialties. Every year, Russian instructors train up to 1,000 servicemen of the national Armed Forces," Okhrimenko told reporters on Sunday.

He noted that to date, more than 6,000 servicemen have already been trained.

Instructors of the Russian military base also train Tajik servicemen according to the programs: gunner-operator, mechanic and driver of a tank, an infantry fighting vehicle, gunner of an armored personnel carrier, commander of a multiple launch rocket system, gunner of a self-propelled artillery gun and other specialties, he said.

The 201st military base is fully manned with contract servicemen, most of whom took part in the missions in Syria, Okhrimenko said.

"The military personnel are maintaining a high level of combat readiness and stand ready to respond to any threats in the Central Asian region," he added.
