Shoigu says NATO isn't ready for equal dialogue with Russia

MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - The NATO member states are reluctant to engage in an equal dialogue with Russia, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

"NATO is gradually gathering forces by our borders amid calls for military deterrence of Russia. The German defense minister must know really well how the similar thing ended for Germany and Europe. Security in Europe could be only common, without infringing on Russia's interests. But it is NATO that is not ready for an equal dialogue about this issue," the Russian Defense Ministry quoted Shoigu as saying on Saturday.

He said so, responding to the words of German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer on the need for military deterrence of Russia using nuclear weapons in the Baltic and Black seas.

"Moreover, the implementation of NATO's 'deterrence' plan in Afghanistan has ended up in a disaster, which the whole world is now dealing with," Shoigu said.
