Japarov says Kyrgyzstan ready to purchase drones from Russia, Turkey

BISHKEK. Oct 25 (Interfax) - Kyrgyzstan is planning to purchase drones from Russia and Turkey, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said at a press conference on Saturday.

"The talks on the purchase of drones are now ongoing with Russia and Turkey," Japarov said.

"We're purchasing hardware not to attack anyone, we're getting it for defense," the president said.

Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister Kamchybek Tashiyev told journalists on Friday that the country is purchasing drones from Russia and Turkey.

Explaining the choice of Turkish drones as attack ones, Tashiyev said that the armies of five countries already use them.

Kyrgyz servicemen are now undergoing relevant training in Turkey, he said.

"We're also purchasing the Orlan 10E drones from Russia, the funds for it were allocated at the state level," Tashiyev said.

He did not provide the details of the deal and the amount of purchased drones.

Kyrgyzstan will become the first member state of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to purchase Turkish drones.
