MOSCOW. Oct 25 (Interfax) - The level of protection of Russia's Okno-M optical-electronic system in Tajikistan has been enhanced against the backdrop of escalating tensions in Afghanistan, chief designer of the space surveillance system (MAK Vympel) Vitaly Goryuchkin told Interfax.
"Definitely," Goryuchkin said in response to the relevant question.
Okno plays an important role in Russia's space surveillance system, as it broadens the space surveillance zone due to its location outside Russia, he said.
The Okno optical-electronic station tasked with detecting and identifying space objects at altitudes of up to 50,000 kilometers is located at a height of 2,200 meters above sea level in the Sanglok Mountains.
