Russia in contact with Taliban regarding security of embassy, citizens - envoy Kabulov

MOSCOW. Oct 25 (Interfax) - The Russian security services are in contact with the Taliban (terrorist organization banned in Russia) to ensure the security of the Russian embassy and Russian citizens in Afghanistan, Russian Special Presidential Representative for Afghanistan and Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Second Asian Department Zamir Kabulov said.

"I am aware of such contacts," Kabulov said at a press conference in Moscow.

"They are absolutely justified and necessary," he said.

"This is a matter of the security of our embassy and our citizens residing in Afghanistan," Kabulov said.

Some Russian citizens who have expressed a desire to leave Afghanistan will be repatriated, he said.

"However, not everyone seems to wish that. There's not a lot of them, but it's enough. So, we need to take care of our establishments," Kabulov said.
