Duma member Kartapolov concerned about crisis in Sudan

MOSCOW. Oct 25 (Interfax) - State Duma Defense Committee Chairman Andrei Kartapolov has expressed concern about the latest events in Sudan.

"Clearly, the ongoing events in Sudan are disquieting. The country is going through a political crisis," Kartapolov told Interfax on Monday.

"The State Duma Defense Committee will be closely monitoring the developments in Sudan," he said.

The Associated Press said earlier that a number of ministers and civil representatives on the Sovereignty Council of Sudan had been detained.

The military has taken control of the main routes and bridges in the capital of Khartoum.

The Sudanese Armed Forces have not commented on the situation.

An interim civilian and military administration has been in charge of Sudan since August 2019.

Meanwhile, the State Duma is considering ratification of a Russian-Sudanese agreement on the construction of a Russian naval base in Sudan. The bill may be discussed in the State Duma in November.
