MOSCOW. Oct 25 (Interfax) - The Ivan Gren landing ship and Kamov Ka-29 attack helicopters from a separate submarine warfare aviation regiment have trained flights of airborne aircraft, the Northern Fleet said in a statement on Monday.
"Helicopters trained taking off and landing on the Ivan Gren deck at marine ranges in the Barents Sea. More than 100 takeoffs and landings on the ship's helicopter pad were performed in the course of several piloting shifts," the statement said.
Landing ships of Project 11711, such as the Ivan Gren, have aircraft on board. Besides hardware and marines, they can carry two Ka-29 attack helicopters providing fire support to marines landing on a beach and airlifting up to ten armed soldiers to the enemy's rear.
