No talk about Kazakh-Afghan political negotiations for now - Kazakh FM

NUR-SULTAN. Oct 26 (Interfax) - It would be premature to talk about political negotiations with the new Afghan administration, and only humanitarian aspects can be addressed for now, Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi said.

"Kazakhstan has decided to send 5,000 tonnes of flour as humanitarian aid to the Afghan people. And naturally, trade-economic ties with that country should also start to be restored. There's no talk about political negotiations with that country. Talk is precisely about helping the Afghan people," Tileuberdi told journalists on the sidelines of a government meeting on Tuesday.

The international community has not yet recognized the new Afghan administration, as the Taliban movement (banned in Russia) has been put on the UN list of terrorist organizations, he said.

"Therefore, above all, its recognition requires a special resolution of the UN Security Council," Tileuberdi said.

"Russia, as a member of the UN Security Council, has brought the matter up and initiated the possibility of considering and adopting a resolution on removing the Taliban movement from the list of terrorist organizations. Everything depends on how the Taliban honors international law and the obligations the Taliban has to other countries, that it does not facilitate the spread of religious terrorism and extremism and does not allow threats to neighboring states," he said.
