Armenia's normalization with Azerbaijan would pave way to normalization with Turkey - Erdogan

BAKU. Oct 27 (Interfax) - Yerevan should meet Baku halfway if it wants to normalize its relations with Ankara, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

"We favor stable peace and full normalization of regional relations. However, that requires determining and mutually recognizing our state borders. This should lay the foundation for good relations. On these issues, Armenia needs to show a sincere will to solve problems with Azerbaijan. And if Yerevan shows a sincere will for the normalization of relations with Baku, there will remain no hindrances to normalizing the relations between Turkey and Armenia," Erdogan said in a joint press statement with the president of Azerbaijan in the Zangilan district on Tuesday.

The highways and railroads that will cross the Zangezur corridor would benefit commercially and economically all countries in the region, not just Turkey and Azerbaijan, he said.

"And the positions of the region as a center of transit logistics will be strengthened. All of Azerbaijan's neighbors, including Iran, Georgia and Armenia, will gain from this development. These projects are inclusive, not exclusive," Erdogan said.

The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations and the regional situation.

"We were able to assess the current situation and plans for the future in the projects involving the energy sector, transport and development of Karabakh. And we primarily talked about how we could further our relationship, which we have taken to a level of strategic alliance with the signing of the Shusha declaration," Erdogan said.

The two countries signed the alliance declaration on June 15, 2021.
