Russia's Pacific Fleet to procure 2 Borei-A subs, 2 Yasen-M subs in coming years

VILYUCHINSK, Kamchatka. Oct 27 (Interfax) - The Pacific Fleet will be reinforced with four submarines of Project 995 Borei-A and Project 885M Yasen-M in the coming years, chief of staff of the Pacific Fleet submarine forces Rear Adm. Arkady Navarsky said.

"Consistent with the armament plan, our formation will be reinforced with new nuclear submarines in the coming years. These subs will substantially strengthen the naval component of the Russian strategic nuclear forces. We are expecting the delivery of four submarines, two Borei and two Yasen subs. Their construction is practically over, and some of them are undergoing sea trials," Navarsky told the press on Wednesday.

The Pacific Fleet will receive modernized subs of Project 955 Borei-A, which carry R-30 Bulava solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missiles. The new Borei-A subs are armed with the latest, modernized weapon systems and the most advanced monitoring and weapon control devices.

Two multirole nuclear submarines of Project 885M Yasen-M, the Novosibirsk and the Krasnoyarsk, are under construction, Navarsky said.

The pier infrastructure of the Kamchatka base of the Pacific Fleet submarine forces is fully prepared to receive the new nuclear subs of Project 955 Borei-A and Project 885M Yasen-M.
