Uzbek FM suggests neighboring countries prepare post-conflict strategy for Afghanistan

TASHKENT. Oct 27 (Interfax) - Uzbekistan believes it is necessary to prepare a post-conflict strategy for Afghanistan, Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov said.

"At this point, it is necessary to prepare a post-conflict strategy for Afghanistan to prevent the country's international isolation," Kamilov was quoted by the Uzbek Foreign Ministry's press service as saying at a meeting between the foreign ministers of the countries that are the closest neighbors of Afghanistan in Tehran on Wednesday.

Afghanistan now has a new reality and has created an interim government, which has full power and is looking to receive international recognition, the Uzbek foreign minister said.

Afghanistan will remain an important factor of regional stability that has a direct effect on the national interests of the neighboring countries in the foreseeable future, Kamilov said.

"The forum participants mentioned the key significance of consolidation of the efforts of the international community in the issue of rebuilding Afghanistan's economy and provision of urgent humanitarian and other assistance to the friendly Afghan people," the press service said.
