Yerevan denies plans for Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting on Nov 9

YEREVAN. Oct 27 (Interfax) - There are no plans for a meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the signing of documents on November 9, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said.

"Contrary to what the media has claimed, no meeting between the Armenian prime minister and the Azerbaijani president is planned [for November 9]. At the same time, various proposals on holding a meeting in various formats are being discussed now and have been discussed regularly. An agreed upon text might presumably be published as the result of such a possible meeting," Mirzoyan said when taking questions from parliamentarians on Wednesday.

The two leaders are not planning to sign any documents at present, he said.

"However, the organization of such meetings is of practical significance for Armenia. We might bring up issues of humanitarian significance again, primarily the return of Armenian prisoners of war from Azerbaijan and the preservation of historical-cultural heritage in the territories that have been transferred to Azerbaijan's control. These meetings also provide an opportunity to lessen the tension in the region and take efforts to ensure lasting peace," Mirzoyan said.

The Aliq Media online publication, which belongs to Pashinyan's former aide Arsen Kharatyan, said earlier that the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia are supposed to meet in Moscow on November 9. According to the publication, at the meeting, Pashinyan and Aliyev are to sign an agreement on the delimitation and demarcation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan and issue a statement on unfreezing transport communications in the region.
