MINSK. Oct 28 (Interfax) - The participants in a meeting of the Council of Commanders of the Border Guard Troops, chaired by Gen. Vladimir Kulishov, first deputy director and head of the Russian Federal Security Service's Border Guard Service, have discussed the situation on the external borders of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Belarusian State Border Committee said in a statement on Thursday.
"The meeting's participants analyzed the situation on the external borders of the CIS countries and the tendencies of its development in 2022, giving special attention to the Central Asian track," the statement said.
The meeting took place amid the difficult situation in Afghanistan, where the Taliban movement (terrorist organization banned in Russia) has come to power.
The Belarusian State Border Committee said the heads of the border agencies of the CIS countries discussed the results of joint special operations and their organization in the upcoming period.
"They also approved the results of the work of the Council of Commanders in 2021, the implementation of the program of cooperation of the CIS countries on strengthening border security on the external borders in 2021-2025, the results of joint special border operations, and issues related to their organization in the upcoming period," the statement said.
During the meeting, the heads of the border agencies of the CIS countries discussed the state of information interaction and measures to intensify it, as well as cooperation in the spheres of research and education. Personnel issues and issues related to the development of the veteran movement were discussed as a separate bloc. The heads of the border agencies signed 20 decisions at the meeting.
The meeting was attended by the delegations of nine border agencies of the CIS countries, the Coordination Service of the Council of Commanders of the Border Guard Troops, interacting CIS bodies (the CIS Executive Committee, the CIS Anti-Terrorist Center, the Bureau for the Coordination of Combating Organized Crime and Other Dangerous Crimes in the CIS), and the Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
The next meeting of the Council of Commanders of the Border Guard Troops is scheduled to be held in Kazakhstan in the first half of 2022.
