Duma's Slutsky describes U.S. official's call for allowing supply of new weapons to Ukraine as provocative

MOSCOW. Oct 29 (Interfax) - Chairman of the State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee Leonid Slutsky has warned against lifting the restrictions on the supply of lethal weapons to Kyiv, as that could lead to an escalation of the conflict in Donbas.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Laura Cooper said that Washington's allies should lift the restrictions on the delivery of lethal defensive weapons to Kyiv.

"This statement isn't just provocative. Such remarks by senior U.S. officials directly undermine the peace process in southeastern Ukraine," Slutsky said on Telegram on Friday.

The West's connivance with Kyiv's actions in Donbas leads to the continuation of war, and there has been talk of non-compliance with the Minsk Agreements, Slutsky said. "There's no smoke without fire! The recent use of a Bayraktar TB2 drone by Ukraine in violation of every ban is an illustrative example," he said.

The Donbas conflict does not have a military solution, and the supply of new weapons to the conflict zone will not help peaceful settlement, Slutsky said.
