Russian, Italian FMs discuss Afghanistan, Libya in Rome

MOSCOW. Nov 1 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held talks with his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio on the sidelines of the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Rome on Sunday.

"During the talks, the foreign ministers discussed topical issues of Russian-Italian relations. Both parties emphasized a high level of bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their willingness to work together to find ways to strengthen the political dialogue and enhance trade, economic, scientific and humanitarian ties. The schedule of political contacts for the forthcoming period was discussed in detail," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.

"As part of the exchange of views on the international agenda, Italy's role as chair of the G20 was highlighted. The parties focused on the situation in Afghanistan. The parties stated the need for further work to ensure an inclusive political settlement in Libya, including before the elections scheduled in the country," the Foreign Ministry said.

"The talks took place in a constructive atmosphere traditional for Russian-Italian relations," the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
