Turkmen delegation promises Taliban to launch TAPI project as soon as possible

KABUL. Nov 1 (Interfax) - A Turkmen delegation at talks with the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) in Kabul has promised to launch the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) Pipeline, as soon as possible and also to start building a railroad and power transmission lines.

"At the presidential palace today, the leaders of Islamic Emirate [of Afghanistan] held an important meeting with a Turkmen delegation led by Foreign Minister Rasit Meredow. The meeting focused on economic, security and trade cooperation and humanitarian aid," Taliban spokesman and Deputy Minister of Information and Culture Zabihullah Mujahid said on Twitter.

"The Turkmen side has promised to launch the TAPI project and start building railroad in two directions, Turkmenistan-Jowzjan and Turkmenistan-Herat, as soon as possible. Also we talked about starting to build a new 500 kV power transmission line from Turkmenistan to Herat," Mujahid said.

The Turkmen side also undertook to continue providing the Afghan people with broad humanitarian assistance in the current crisis.

The Turkmen delegation arrived in Kabul on Saturday morning.
