Belarusian court designates Euroradio's Telegram channel as extremist

MINSK. Nov 1 (Interfax) - A Belarusian court has designated the Telegram channel of the European Radio for Belarus (Euroradio) as extremist.

"Based on materials provided by the Belarusian Interior Ministry's GUBOPiK [a special organized crime and corruption taskforce], the Central District Court of Minsk has designated the Telegram channel of Euroradio as one circulating extremist materials," the GUBOP Telegram channel said.

The Belarusian government earlier closed Euroradio's bureau in Minsk.

During the protests in Belarus in August 2020, the Information Ministry restricted access to the websites belonging to a number of media outlets, among them Euroradio.

The European Radio for Belarus was set up in Warsaw in September 2005. It identifies itself as a Belarusian media outlet and covers the Belarusian agenda. Its bureau in Minsk was opened in 2009. The radio broadcasts in the FM range to the western part of Belarus and circulates its content via the Internet.
