MOSCOW. Nov 1 (Interfax) - A naval unit of the Russian Norther Fleet has completed an anti-piracy mission in the Gulf of Guinea, the fleet's press service said in a statement on Monday.
"The unit of warships and supply vessels of the Northern Fleet consisting of the Vice-Admiral Kulakov large anti-submarine ship, the Akademic Pashin seafaring tanker and the Altai rescue tug has completed a mission of ensuring safe commercial navigation in the Gulf of Guinea in the Atlantic Ocean," the statement said.
The Northern Fleet's naval unit left the gulf today heading to the Cape Verde Islands, it said.
Northern Fleet's anti-piracy mission off the coast of Africa lasted almost four weeks. Russian servicemen examined several civilian vessels and prevented an attempt to hijack a Panama-flagged bulk carrier.
