MOSCOW. Nov 2 (Interfax) - On-duty air defense forces of the Russian Black Sea Fleet defended naval bases from a massive mock enemy air raid during a training exercise.
"Onboard anti-aircraft systems were put on alert at the Crimean and Novorossiysk Naval Bases during the drills. Personnel detected, began tracking and destroyed mock enemy airborne targets using anti-aircraft missile and artillery weapons intended to defend ships from all air attack means," the Black Sea Fleet said in a statement circulated on Tuesday.
"The targets were electronically imitated by the ships' weapons control systems. Their simulated destruction took place at maximum distances," the fleet said.
The United States Sixth Fleet has reported that the U.S. Navy's USS Porter destroyer, equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles, entered the Black Sea on October 30.
