Russia not to allow restriction of its credentials in OPCW - envoy Shulgin

MOSCOW. Nov 2 (Interfax) - Russia will take relevant measures in the event of restrictions on its credentials in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Russian Permanent Representative to the OPCW Alexander Shulgin said on Tuesday.

"We will do everything we can to prevent such developments from happening," Shulgin told reporters.

The OPCW "has a certain balance of forces in the ruling bodies of this organization," he said.

"Euro-Atlantic states can aspire for constituting a certain majority in the Executive Council, and they frequently use this circumstance and sometimes ensure the adoption of certain decisions. True, we sometimes disrupt their plans," Shulgin said.

Meanwhile, "the situation is not so straightforward at meetings of the OPCW supreme body, i.e. the conference of participatory states," he said.

"It is possible that Western nations will fail to accumulate the necessary number of votes," Shulgin said.

"Anyway, if anything unfavorable for Russia starts looming, believe me, we will be able to act consistent with the situation," he said.
