Belarusian wanted by U.S. on suspicion of credit card fraud detained in St. Petersburg - source (Part 2)

ST. PETERSBURG. Nov 2 (Interfax) - Operatives from the St. Petersburg bureau of Interpol have detained Belarusian citizen Sergei Pavlovich convicted previously of carding, who is currently wanted by the United States, an informed source told Interfax on Tuesday.

The man was apprehended near a hotel on Suvorovsky Avenue on Monday, the source said.

Pavlovich is on an international wanted list at the initiative of U.S. law enforcement agencies. The U.S. suspects Pavlovich of fraud and related activity in connection with access devices.

Pavlovich is currently being held at a police station, and the initiator of declaring him wanted has been notified of his detention.

Interfax has yet to obtain information on the matter from official sources.

As follows from information available in open sources, Pavlovich has been repeatedly involved in criminal cases dealing with cybercrime. In particular, one of these sources indicates that Pavlovich was implicated in "the largest and most complex identity theft in U.S. history" and was charged with selling data of stolen credit cards in 2008.

Belarus sentenced Pavlovich to ten years in prison for carding in 2009. While serving his term, he wrote a book titled "How To Steal a Million: The Memoirs of a Russian Hacker." He was released from prison in 2015.

Pavlovich has lately become known as the author of the People PRO YouTube channel with over 500,000 subscribers.
