MOSCOW. Nov 3 (Interfax) - The Kremlin prefers to refrain from commenting on the new charges brought against journalist Ivan Safronov, but points out that the new charges have yet to be proven in court, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Journalists asked Peskov on Wednesday whether the president has been informed of the new charges brought against Safronov, which concern his past job as a journalist.
"Certainly it's impossible to report on all the nuances of this case to the president, for reasons that are understandable. But anyway, any charges have yet to be proven in court. Before this is done, we definitely cannot and don't want to comment either on the course of the investigation or the essence of the charges brought," he said.
While the investigation is underway, the proceedings cannot be commented on, Peskov said, adding yet again that "only a court can find someone guilty."
Asked whether the Kremlin is aware that Safronov has been placed in a disciplinary cell at the detention facility, Peskov replied, "We've seen media reports on the matter, but we don't know how accurate they are."
