Russia calls for refraining from actions undermining efforts to restore stability in Afghanistan - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Nov 3 (Interfax) - Russia calls on various ethno-political forces of Afghanistan to refrain from actions that undermine the efforts to restore stability and security in the country, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"We believe that the country's ethno-political forces at this point should refrain from actions that provoke an inter-Afghan conflict and should look for ways of reaching a mutual understanding and national reconciliation to restore lasting peace, stability and security in Afghanistan and the surrounding region," Zakharova said at a briefing.

Moscow "has noticed the information in the media on the readiness of the national resistance front to resume military action against Taliban [recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia] forces, and also reports that resistance leader Ahmad Massoud is in Tajikistan, she said.

The Afghan national resistance front, led by Ahmad Massoud, the son of anti-Taliban coalition leader Ahmad Shah Massoud, earlier announced the start of a military fight against the militants of the Taliban movement in several provinces of Afghanistan.
