YEREVAN. Nov 8 (Interfax) - Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has lauded the role played by Russian peacekeepers in the provision of security in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"The first clause of the trilateral statement [on Karabakh signed by the heads of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan on November 9, 2020] is about a ceasefire and the end of all hostilities. We can say that the war ended after the statement was signed. In this respect, I highly appreciate the role of Russia and the efforts of the Russian president," Pashinyan said in an interview with Public Television Company of Armenia on Sunday evening.
An important clause of the statement has been fully met: Russian peacekeepers have been deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor, which connects Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh, he said.
"We highly appreciate their activity. They play a key role in the provision of security, and this should be affirmed," Pashinyan said.
At the same time, the ceasefire has not been fully honored, and Armenian prisoners of war have not been released by Azerbaijan, Pashinyan said.
"The Russian peacekeepers have recorded that. Hopefully, a comprehensive investigation will be conducted and relevant measures will be taken," he said.
